Tom Thomson paintings of flowers. The one on the far right is titled “Wildflowers”
These are some of my favourite as Thomson decided to focus more on the sky as his subject manner. One is titled “Morning” and each is painted at a different time of day.
The famous “Northern Lights” by Tom Thomson
“Canoe Lake” is not only a painting of the same lake Tom Thomson died on but it is a beautiful piece as it was painted at night in the moonlight. Tom Thomson died July 8th, 1917 at age 40 on Canoe Lake, Algonquin Park.

Tom Thomson ceramic toast
Keith Campbell put on every piece of toast a famous historical figure in Canadian history. The dark humour in it however is that they are all dead. Hence, they are all “TOAST”

Art in Canada is “TOAST”?? What do you think???
Keith Campbell’s image placed on the bread going into a toaster that has the saying “To Be Toast” is a continuation of his secondary theme “Death Becomes Us All”
A Roadkill Beaver being eaten by crows is Campbell’s way of showing the effect of globalization on Canada.
Artist Tom Benner’s shrines displaying and educating the viewer about At Risk of Endangered animals such as the Rayed Bean found in the Thames River, London, Ontario, the Bison and the Leatherback Turtle.
A Canoe representing the Native American leader Tecumseh and his journey across North America to bring together all the different band leaders.
I am going Egyptian style with these Wild African Asses. Tom Benner wanted to remind his viewer of this incredible animal that is now extinct. Without this animal things like the pyramids in Egypt would have been harder to build. It was on their backs that supplies was carried or pulled. They were also used for travelling. Even travelling from the living to the dead. These Wild Donkeys would be placed in tombs with dead pharaohs so that they could journey to the afterlife. One pharaoh was given 12 donkeys for his burial tomb. Another reason why they became extinct.
“A Landscape” involves a to scale copper replica of the moon, a coyote, and a tree. Artist Tom Benner.
Each Beaver represents the 15 Bands that Tecumseh brought together. Tom Benner’s way of interpreting Canadian history.
